There are four cargoes now off coast, but they do not meet with ready sale. Wellington mutton, 3#d ; Canterbury lamb, 6§d. New Zealand beef, forequarters, 4d ; hindquarters, s|d. Frozen beef is very scarce, and the prices are almost nominal. Hemp is in small supply, and there is a strong market for the New Zealand article, which has advanced £1 per ton. Fair to medium Wellington, £22 ss. September 10. Tallow. — The market is firmer and fine mutton tallow is worth 26s 3d, and good beef 24s per cwt. Frozen Meats. — The mutton market is quiet, but the beef market is firmer, and has an upward tendency. Quotations for New Zealand meats are : — Canterbury mutton is worth 4^d per lb ; Wellington mutton is worth 3^d per lb. New Zealand beef — Hindquarters are worth sj|d per lb ; forequarters are worth 3t|d per lb. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) advise they have reached the following cable from their London office, dated September 10 : — Tallow — Market is firmer.
