In the Supreme Court a motion for a writ of certiorari was heard, directed against the Licensing Committee of Invercargill North, to remote into the Court all the proceedings connected with the application of John Cameron, made on the 3Uth June last, for a renewal of bis license for the north btar Hotel, for tlie purpose of haying a certificate granted to John Cameron and the license thereunder quashed on the ground that no application by the said John Cameron was presented to the committee as re* quired by the Act. The application was made by Mr John Tuylor, Minister of the Gospel. The affidavit filed snowed that the application for a license had been made by Hewitt, and consideration psotponed to the 30th June. Two days before that date he withdrew his ap« plication. The Scottish and New Zealand Investment Company, the owners, requested that the license should be given to Jobn Cameron, and a certificate was issued, although no application in writing had been made by Cameron, Justice Williams granted the order with" out costs, remarking that the Act was defectire in not protecting landlord's interests. k
