» LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wellington. September 1. The Labour Bills Committee recommended that the Workmen's Lien Bill be proceeded with as amended. The committal was fixed for nest day. The Electoral Bill was read a first time, and the second reading fixed for Tuesday. The Bankruptcy Bill was recom mitted, The third reading was fixed for Friday, The West Coast Settlement JKeserves Bill (Colonial Secretary) "-as read a second time, and it was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Employers' Liability Act Amendment Bill was returned from the Labour Bills Committee. In regard to the liability ot employers for injuries in respect of men working for contractors and sub contractors, it-is added that nothing in the section takes away the workman's right of action against his immediate enm plovers. An injured man is disentitled to recover compensation if ho has been guilfy of contributory negligence. Protision is added entitling the employer to be indemnified by the workman who has caused the injury, for which damages and costs have to be paid The amount of compensation recoverable is hmited to £500. The amendments were agreed to ana the third reading fixed for Friday.
