Attempted Suicide by a Doctor

(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, This Day. Dr Robertson a well-known medico, called at the police station about 10 last night, and demanded police protection, asserting some people had tried to stab him, and he only escaped by taking to his heels. He appeared to be suffering from the effects of drink, and was detained at the station a constable being placed m charge of him. This morning, about five, he asked to be allowed to go to the rear, and while the constable's attention was not directed to him he drew a lance from his pocket and inflicted a severe wound in his throat. Medical assistance was at once obtained and the wound stitched up after which Robertson was removed to the hospital. The wound is not believed to be dangerous, unless inflamimation sets in.
