Writh's Great Circus

[Auckland Star,| A very large audience assembled at the Agricultural Hall to witness the performance of Messrs Wirth Bros' Circus and Eastern Show, despite the threatening state of the weather. The building was filled to its utmost capacity, and that the spectators fully appreciated and enjoyed the entertainment was testified by the bursts of applause which greeted each item of the long programme. The per* formance was slightly marred by an accident which happened to Miss Madeline Wirth. The mishap was a repetition of that which occurred to her a short time back when she dislocated her knee. The various equestrian, juggling, acrobatic and tumbling feats of the circus members were very clever, and were admirably gone through. The clowns are also very good, and have prepared quite a new set of funnyisms, which succeeded in eliciting a great deal of laughter. Naturally, the novel performances of the Japanese troup and Bedouin Arabs attracted the most attention. They are indescribably clever and marvellous. The Arabs were first to appear, and their sword fighting, fencing and gun spinning— the latter with an Enfield rifle — charmed and bewildered the audience. The gun, sword, and shield, were afterwards offered to the audience for inspection, who satisfied themselves that the weapons were not by any means playthings. The Enfield is heavier, if anything, than the ordinary rifle. The performance of the Japanese troupe was remarkably good. The balancing feats of the elder member, Mr Godayou, especially comtnanded admiration and astonishUient.
