The ordinance requires that all entrance doors to saloons, bars, and other public drinking places shall be so constructed that at least one-half the superficial area thereof shall be oi clear glass, so as to afford to persons outside of such places a free and unobstructed view ot the interior and all business there conducted at all hours of the day or night, both when such place is open for business and when also ifc is required to be closed, and no curtain, screen, or frosted glass, blind, shutter, partition, or other obstruction shall at auy time be maintained which shall in any manner interfere with such view. Besides this, ali saloons aro required to close at 10 o'clock Saturday night, and then remain closed till 5 o'clock Monday morning. Every saloonkeeper on Market-street, with the exception of Fred Linne, whose establishment is north of Santa Clara, agreed to comply with the ordinance. The principal saloons in the centre of the town refused to comply with the ordinance, and the proprietors were arresced and released on bail. A jury trial was demanded in each case.
