Feilding Jockey Club

The animal meeting of the above Club . was held at Light's Denbigh Hotel last night, when the following members were present : — Messrs Haybittle, (Chairman) Bray, Burnett, Louis Holden, Saxon, Mor'ey, Bellve, Bassett, Jackman, Sandilands, W. Bailey, Ward, Gorton, Allen, Downes, Martin, Gosling, Lance, Smith, Ridley, Light, Wollerman, Kirton, Curtis, Sanders, Buchanan, and E. The Committee in feeling terms expressed regret at the loss this Club had sustained owing to the melancholy death of its late vice-president (Mr Macarthur) who had been connected with the Club for so many years past. The two day's meeting at Easter proved a great success and resulted in a profit of about £400 The Summer Hack Meeting was not so. successful as usual, owing to the Palmerston Club holding their meeting on that day. The receipts from all sources were £1643, 6s 3d against £1098 for the previous season, and the value of the stakes amounted to £835 against £470. The Hack Meeting showed a marked falling off in each item of revenue, and the question of continuing the meeting on the 27th of December requires deep consideration. New offices consisting of stewards', secretary's weighing and jockeys' rooms have been erected besides a row of stalls and loose boxes for horses. The totalisator house has also been removed to a more convenient position and enlarged. The whole plough track has been laid down in grass, and a new one formed on the inside, for the use of horses training on the ground. £217 has been \ expended on permanent improvement, out of profits made during the season, in addition to paying off £150 liability at the bank, leaving a balance in hand of £82. The Committee recommended the advisability of acquiring the freehold of the racecourse at a cost of £1488. If the " freehold were obtained, the inner circle 5 could be leased for £50 per annum which with £49 12s the interest now paid, • would pay interest on the purchase money at 6i per cent. The Committee in conclusion expressed their thanks to all officials connected with the club for the very efficient way in which their ' duties had been carried out. Resolved, that the report, and balance 1 sheet be adopted. 1 Mr J. Smith stated that he thought the • handicapper should have been paid more ■ than £10 10s for the additional day's ! racing. Mr Ward also 6poke to the same effect i and stated that he knew Mr Henry felt f hurt at only receiving £10. > Mr Haybittle stated that when the committee voted the extra ten guineas, they did not anticipate any objection from Mr Henry on the ground that this sum was insufficient, Proposed by Mr Ward, seconded by Mr Kirton, That Mr Henry be paid a aum of £2 10s iv addition to the amount B he has already received for the extra day's racing at Easter.— Carried.
