Manawatu Rugby Union

A meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held in Feilding last night, when the following delegates were present : — Messrs Kelleher (chairman) Storey, Seddon, Cameron, Broughton, Pawson, Hankins, Strachan, Saywell and Duncan. The minutes of the previous meeting, held at Bulls on the 15th June last, were read and confirmed. Proposed by Mr Strachan, seconded by Mr Saywell, That a practice game be held in Palmerston the first available Saturday, with a view to sending teams to Wellington and Wanganui. — Carried. Mr Broughton proposed and Mr Seddon seconded, that the arrangements fora junior team to play against Wellington be left in the hands of the captains of the junior teams. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Saywell, seconded by Mr Broughton, That Feilding 2nd play Bulls on Saturday the 20th inst. — Carried. The Awahuri protest against Balls, on the ground that the latter played a senior man (Harris) from another club, was then dealt with. Mr Cameron, captain of the Bulls team, stated that at the time the match was played Harris was then residing in Bulls, he being on a visit to relations during the holidays, but that he (Harris) usually liyed in Hawera where he was teaching. Mr Broughton proposed and Mr Pawson seconded, That the match Bulls versus Awahuri be played over again. — Carried. Mr Cameron gave notice that the Bulls Club would appeal to the New Zealand Rugby Union, as they considered that they had fairly won the match with Awahuri. The protest of the Bulls Club against the Pirates was then considered. The j ground of the appeal was that the referee overruled the decision of the field urn pires. The eyidence adduced went to prove that tho two umpires all through the game acted as field, and not as line umpires. Mr Cameron proposed, and Mr Pawson seconded, That the match Bulls versus Pirates be awarded to the Bulls Club.— Carried. Tho Palmoiston Club's protest against Huutorville on the grounds that the field was not iv a fit condition for playing upon was ultimately withdrawn, the feeling of tho meeting tending to show that the objection was a frivolous one. Mr Storey gave uotico of motion to the offect that at the next meeting of the Union he would move that " any Club forfeiting twice during the season be disqualified for the remainder of it." This motion was brought forward in order to put a stop to tho continued forfeiture of matches, as tliis custom of throwing up matches was, in tho mover's opinion, coutrary to tho interest* of the game, Proposed by Mr Strachan, seconded by Mr Saywoll, That tho Cup presented by Mr Bailoy be handod over to tho Palmerstoii Club. — Carried. Mr VV. A. L. Bailey was. unanimously electod a vice president of the Union. Tho customary voto of thanks to tho chairman concluded the proceedings.
