Prohibition League
One of the largest Temperance meetings that ever took place in Feiiding, was held last night in Short's Half. The Rev Mr Lyon was elected chairman. A good programme was formed, and the following were the items #iven;— Chorus by choir, address by the chairman, song by Mrs Lyon, address Mr ,T. 0. Thompson, song by Mrs Morey, dialogue between Messrs Bleakley and Long, song by Mr H. Dixon, song by Mrs J, C. Thompson, reading by Mr Johnson, song by Mr Jolly. Recitation by Miss Whisker, song by Mr Milson. The chairman, at the close of the meeting, invited persons who were interested in the formation of a Temperance Society ' to stay after the benediction was given, when a large number remained. The Rev. Mr Lyon explained the object of the meeting and asked that some proposition be made in regard to the name of the society to be formed. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Mines, that tne society should be called " The Feiiding Prohibition League." The following officers were then appointed : — President, Rev. H. M. Murray ; vice-presidents, Rev. T. H. Lyon, Mr H. Jolly, and Mr F. Y. Lethbridge ; secretary, Mr H. Dixon ; treasurer, Mr J. C. Thompson ; choir leader, Mr W. G. Shearer; executive committee, Messrs Johnson, Bleakley, Long, Smith, Mines and Freeman, with power to add to their number- It was also decided to hold meetings monthly, and for arrangements to be made for a suitable place to meet. The meeting concluded at 10 o'clock.
