Feilding Borough Council
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held last Thursday evening. Present— Mr W. G. Hay bittle (Mayor), Councillors J. Gould, W. Watts, Carihew, Lethbridge, (ioodbehere, and T. Chamberlain. The minutes of the preyious meeting were read and confirmed. \ CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Wollerman, requesting the Council to make footpaths in front of his property and agreeing to pay half the "cost. From W. G. Shearer, re erecting a verandah in front of his shop. From Manawatu Timber Company, re formation of footpaths in front of their property iv Feilding. : -= -■•... From Mr Deighton, Clerk of the Court, re improving the approaches to Court House. From L. Y. Pearce, of Sanson, making a claim of £10 for injuries received by a fall from his horse, caused by a defective culvert on the Makiuo road. From Dwan Bros., stating concessions required by them for the purpose of erecting gasworks in Feilding : first, the right to lay pipes in streets as required from time to time ; second, the Council to giye the lighting of town to company at a discount of 20 per cent on charge to ordinary customers ; third, no other concession to be given to others for gasworks for 21 years ; fourth, the company to give the Corporation power to purchase works at 25 per cent advance on gross outlay, but such right not to be exercised for ten years. From Palmerston Charitable Aid Board, enclosing cheque for £16 8s 9d in settlement of the Council's account. From the Colonist's Land Corporation, re formation of footpath in front of their property. From the Colonial Secretary, requesting information as to the number of members in the Council. From Department of Lands, enclosing a copy of the warrant issued by the Governor re bridge over the Oroua nver at Aorangi. From the Palmerstou North Hospital Board, asking particulars of the rateable yalue of the Feilding Borough. From Land and Income Tax Department, stating that the rateable value of the Borough, exclusive of unoccupied Crown and Native Lands is £138,684. From Mrs Macarthur, enclosing card with thanks for sincere sympathy. From W. G; Shearer, requesting to be put of the rate roll in place of Nichol Stenhouse. From J. C. Morey, with request that a culvert may he put in Derby street opposite the gate to his &ection, also requesting permission to cut a drain through Derby street so as to carry away the overflow from his tanks. GENERAL. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That the report of the Finance Committee be adopted.— Car-, ned. ,:.-•; Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Or Lethbridge, That the requests of Messrs Cornfoot and Wollerman, and the Colonists' Land Corporation, re formation of footpaths in front of their respective properties be granted on the usual term. — Carried. , . Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Goodbehere, That W..G. Shearer's name be placed on the rate roll in place of Nichol Stenhiouso. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Or Lethbridge, That the Clerk of Works be instructed to put in a culvert, if neccessary, and gravel in Stafford street, as requested by Mr Deighton, Clerk of the Court.— Carried. . Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Witts, That the letter from Mr Mofey be referred to the Public Works Committee, to report upon at the next meeting of the Council. -^Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That .the Mayor write to Mr Pearce and ask for further particulars re his claim.-^Carned. Proposed by Cr gartfiißW, .-seconded by Cr Watts, That a copy > 'of the correspondence from the various public bodies re the extra railway communication between Wellington and Wanganui, be forwarded to the Eailway Commissioners and the Directors of the Manawatu Bailway Company, suggesting that the KaiU way Commissioners be requested to dW tain the train leaving Palmerston at 5.30 till 6.30 p.m., and the. Directors of the Manawatu Company arrange; for, their train which now reaches Palmerston at 7.30 p.m. to arrive an hour earlier. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That in view of the extra quantity of wool and other produce which will come to the Feilding railway station, during this season, the Commissioners be asked to enlarge the goods sheds, as the present accommodation will be totally inadequate.— Carried. The Mayor informed the Council that abont 26 trees had been planted in Manchester Square during 'the afternoon, which he considered satisfactory ; a consignment of trees from- Napier had not come to hand as expected, but no doubt they would arrive very shortly. The consideration of Messrs Dwan Bros letter, re gasworks concession was held over until a future meeting. Accounts amounting to £33 19s 3d were passed for payment, and the meeting then adjourned.
