Awahuri Notes
The lambing season promises to be an early one, and we are informed that the prospects, so far, are very good, and there is every appearance of the fall being fully an average one. Mr Drury is not leaving the Endymion Hotel after all, the negociations for the sale having fallen through. Mr Arthur Dermer has recently purchased from Mr James Stuckey, of the Wairarapa, a pure-bred Jersey cow and calf, the cow being one of Mr Stuckey's best milking strains. When the cow was in course of transit on the Wfllington-Manawatu line, the straw bedding of the truck in which she was placed caught fire, no doubt by «he sparks from the engine. Fortunately the occurrence was soon discovered and the fire subdued, without any great amount of damage being done, although the cow was somewhat singed in three or four places, causing three rather unsightly scars, still the injury was not very severe, and it is hoped the animal will soon be quite recovered from the mishap.
