Slavin and Jackson

PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION). London, July 24. A challenge has been issued by Frank P. Slavin to Peter Jackson, offering to box him for £2000 and the championship. Slavin and his supporters are sanguine that he can turn the tables on the coloured man, who defeated him on the 31st ult. A sum of £500 has been deposited by Slavin, who says that Australian backers have intimated their readiness to contribute £1000 to the stake. In reply to F. P. Slavin's challenge, published in Saturday's sporting papers, Peter Jackson remarks that there is no necessity to talk about putting up a big sum of money to fight for. He will box Slavin for a purse at any sporting club, preference, of course, being given to the organisation that offers the largest inducement in this direction.
