'■^- — '. — .' m: i. '• ■' :; A special meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday to! consider questions of hospital site. and reserves, and other matters. Present— Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), Ransome, Grant, Park, Haybittle, Taylor, and Nye. ' The Chairman stated that he had received two letters from Mr Jellicoe, which advised the Board to have a conference with the Borough Councillors. He thought it would be advisable to draft a Bill, and if the matter was left in ihe hands of himself and Mr Stafford they would manage the matter tbis session. If the reserves were not handed over they could not build a hospital, because then were not sufficient funds available. He was quite sure that the Council were in fayour of handing over the reserves in a legal manner. Mr Park said the Council only wanted to hand them over in a legal manner.. Mr Grant said he had informed Mr Jellicoe that the Board would hot build on the land unless they had a legal title. The Chairman, thought the difficulty a*, regarded the Hospital sit^ jpijjujdt be settled by 'purchasing that sfte from the Council at a nominal sum, say £5. He believed the Council had power,. to sell. Mr Taylor was of opinion 'that-* Palmerston North would benefit more thaii the country districts, and such being the case the reserves; should be handed over without delay. The town would even then benefit in a greater proportion then the country districts would in proportion to the amount paid bh them. An account of £448 Os 4d, due to Messrs Richter, Nannestad & Co. for timber supplied to the hospital, was passed for payment, An order fbr the payment of the amount due to Messrs Richter, Nannestad & Co. to Mr (jhrant was forwarded, and Mr Grant explained that he had given hia own cheque because the Treasurer would not sign the cheque drawn in fayour of Messrs Richter, Nannestad and Co. . Mr Park explained that he had ob* jected to Bign the cheque because it would have heen an irregular transaction, inasmuch as the account had not been passed for payment in the usual manner. ;It was necessary to everciao caution. ' Mr Grant said the reason Mr Perk had not signed the cheque was that he had heard that he (Mr Grant) was about to give a cheque, and he thought he would be unable to find the amount. ! ' "■ '■ . ? . Mr Park said he never said or thought anything of the kind. v, ■:■!■,, ;.■•-...* Mr Grant said he intended 'to move at next meeting that the Treasurer and Secretary find sureties.
