The members are reminded of the parade of the Manchester Rifles tonight. A New Zealand veteran has iust obtained substantial promotion from the Admiralty, Captain Robert Frederick Hammick having been •elected to command the big ironclad Triumph. Commander Hammick wae acting lieutenant in command of the Ant at Ranginri, in the engagement oi 20th November, 1863, and for bis action on that occasion he was pro tnoted to a lieutenancy on H.M.S. Miranda, in which capacity he fought at Pukehinahina (Gate Pah) and waa wounded in tbat disastrous attack of ths British forces. For hia conduct he was speciaUy and favourably commended in despatches and received tbe New Zealand medal. The Manawatu Mounted Rifles will give their first Annual Ball on Thursday the 19th instant at Palmerston North. Lord Glasgow has accepted tbe position of honorary Colonel of tbe Heretaunga Mounted Rifles.
