Social at Colyton
! A social in the form of a concert and dance was held in the Colyton Hall on Tuesday night. Considering the wretched weather we had it is not too much to say that the affair was very successful. Had it been fine the hall would have been full, and as it was there were about seventy or eighty present. Tbe programme was as follows : — Pianoforte solo, Miss Shortall ; Lesson on Elocution, Messrs S. Knight and 0. C. Pleasants ; Glee, " See our oars with feathered Spray " tbe parts in this being, treble, Misses Stewart, Garlick, Menzies, Pleasants, and Miss Mary Shortall.; tenor, Messrs Pearce and Pleasants ; bass, Messrs J. B. Pringle and W. Tong ; pianiste, Miss ShortalL Song, Miss Stewart ; duet, Messrs Pleasants and Tong; song, Miss M. Shortall ; song, Misses Menzies and Pleasants; pianoforte selection, Miss K. Garlick ; glee, " The Foot Traveller " ; song, Miss Garlick ; song, comic, Mr W. Andrew ; company, " God Save the Queen." Miss Shortall played the accompaniments to the songs of Miss M. Shortall, Miss Stewart, and Messrs Pleasants and Tong. Mr Andrew played for Miss Garlick's song and Mr O. C. Pleasants played for Misses Pleasants and Menzies. The performers acquitted themselves very creditably and it would be unfair to mention anyone in particular where they all did so well. It is enough to say that the ladies had all to respond to well merited, encores as did also Mr Andrew for the. comic song " Three girls in a Boat.'' After the concert was over,- dancing was commenced, and kept up till a little past twelve. The music "piano" being given by Miss Shortall aud Mr Pleasants. The piano was kindly lent by Mr F. Andrew.
