THE PITTSBUEG EIOTS, I (PKII IINITKU PHKSS ASSOCIATION.) j San Feancisco, July 10 i An explosion took place at the Grant J Powiler Works, near San Francisco, j killing 104 people, mostly Chinamen. Later. The explosion at a powder null caused extensive damage in the vicinity. A passing train was wrecked, and some of the passengers were inj tired. Geneva. July 11. The boiler of the stenmer Mon*. Blanc exploded in Jake Genera. An iron pla.'e crushed through the saloon, killing 20 passengers and injuring 40 others. Among the victims were several English tourists. Later. Tha total number of persons killed by the explosion on the steamer Mont Blanc was 28, including the captain. The steam filled the saloon and caused a panic. All egress was blocked, and the cries of the sufferers immersed in the scalding vapour were fearful Many of the passengers implored the doctors to kill them and so put au end to their agony. Some, July 11. The Eoman Catholic ecclesiastical auchorities are agitating for an indemnity for the harm inflicted on the Catholic missions in Uganda. The eruption of Mount Etna is nssum ing alarming proportions. The villages | of Eicolost and Belhaso are in danger j from the lava How, and earthquakes are < frequent. j Later. Twelve houses were demolished by the eruption of Mt Etna, and tears are entertained that the flowing lava will cover the village of Eenazzi. j Washington, July 10. A force of 400 men is starting for Car* neuie's homestead in bullet proof cars, with provisions for several days. The strikers are well armed, and have supplies of dynamite, in addition to firearms. They patrol all the approaches to Car* negie's mills, which are the focus of the strike. The civilians of Pittsburg declined to respond to the Sheriff's appeal for help. July 11. Eight thousand troops have been dispatched to Pittsburg to assist in preserving order. St. Petebsbubg, July 11. Further noting has taken place in tho Astra kan proyiuco where the cholera i.s raging. Several doctors were killed and two hospitals were demolished. Pahis, July 10.
