An Atheist's Death
* — There are many unbelievers who profess a bigh moral code, and owing to an early Christian training act up to it, but it cannot logically be disputed that the result of the prevalence of atheism would be immorality of the grossest character. Now and again we find this actually illustrated only with too grea*. fidelity, A man named Anasty, a materialist, was guillotined in Paris very recently. From his n aterialism j sprang tbe most heartless crim s. lie ( ' was expelled from the army for disgraceful conduct, and murdered a benefactress mimed Mdlle Del lard thus bringing upon himself tbe capital punishment. His death was os shocking as his life llis only anxiety at the last moment was as to whether, in accordance witb one of his theories, his body would remain conscious for an hour after the guillotine had does its work, and in a letter to bis brother he asked him to be present to receive his head, so that his eyes might answer questions put to them. Atheism bas olten heen described as a species oi insanity. Here we have at least one proof.-— Catholic Times. v
