A REPLY TO MR CHAMBERLAIN.

j [to the ewtoh of the stab,] Sib —In the Stab on tiie Mih June , there was a letter from Mr Chamberlain saying he should support measures nol men, and culled upon others to do the same in this bycelection. Does Mr C. think he cau gull us poor working men into voting for the support of the Ballance Government and their present taxation ? If he does he will be sadly disappoiuted. He may gull a few who will not think for themselves, but tho majority can see that money is being drawn from this colony very fast, and the small farmers will have to pay dear for their advances, aud the deeper they get into the hole the more Mr O can grind out of them. The Land Tax although now only one penny, with the turn or two of the ; screw Mr Ballance promised wkon in Feilding, might rise it to one shilling in the pound. Mr O while grinding the poor farmers, does not forget to grind us at the same time by keeping tip the price of his flour, and making us pay a big price for bread. I notice that the great Liberal Party are still going in for more pay. I thought they had such a great snub from the Upper House last session that they would be ashamed to ask for it, considering how they have been stumping the country upon bogus requisitions and wasting the public monoy which we the toilers have to pay. I see Mr Stevens has answered the questions that he would not answer when in Peilding, so 1 suppose he has since got leave from Mr Ballance to do so. Hoping to see Mr Bruce at the top of the poll. I am, etc., Working Man.
