RANGITIKEI V. FEILDING 11. The above Junior Cnp match was played on the Oval on Saturday last. Feeding won the toss and played with the sun and a slight breeze of wind at their backs. From the kick-off play centred in mid-field and was mostly a forward game, being very slow. The Feilding forwards worked the ball into their opponent's 25 where they kept it for some time. Fanthorpe, here obtained the ball three times in succession in front of the goal, but each time he was rushed by the opposing forwards who thus prevented almost c.rfcain scores. Fanthorpe agiin secured the ball and after a good run passed to Watts, who looked like scoring but was thrown into touch. Rangitikei now livened up a bit, and worked towards mid-field, where several free kicks were awarded either side. From here the visiting forwards made an attack on Feilding's goal line, but a serviceable kick from Mingins took play back to mid-field, when half-time was called. On changing sides the game was a little faster, and from a free kick in mid-field Feilding was forced down. Bellve took the kick out, but punted instead of taking a drop kick, and a scram was formed on Feilding's 25 line in front of the goal. Play then centred in mid-field for some time and after a lot of encouragement from the spectators the Feilding boys livened up, j and made things interesting. After , several loose forward rushes up and down I the field, Hodges, Newman, Keen and Watts made a determined effort to score, and carried the ball over the visitor's goal line, where Newman fell on it scoring a try. Bellve took the kick at goal but did not increase the score. Shortly after the kick out the ball went in touch when time was called, the pcore being Feilding two points Rangitikei nil. For the most part the game was uninteresting, being principally amongst the forwards. Feilding had slightly the best of it and should have scored several times bat for the indifferent play of some of the players. For Feilding, Macfarlane played a yery plucky and useful game at three-quarter, and Watts, Galway, Keen, and Parr played well. For Bangitikei Webb, Cameron, and Bethweißht were the best. Very little passing was done on either side, and one or two players were too fond of playing off-side. It should be remembered that this off-side play often spoils a good chance of scoring. Messrs Remington and Strachan acted as impires for Rangitikei and Feilding respectively, and Mr Saywell carried the whistle. The Senior Cup match between Palmerston and Marton was won by the former by a disputed try to nil. The Poneke v. Petone Senior Championship on Saturday last was won by Poneke by v goal and a try to nil. The Athletic v- Wellington match resulted in a draw.
