A DESTRUCTIVE PEST.

IO THK EDITOR OF THB STAR. Sir, — I send you, per favour of Mr W. Giesen, a kind of grub, that has taken hold m this district, lt starts from a centre, and spreads in a circle round, in spots, all over a paddock, working just under the surface eating the grass out by the roots, completely killing it. The | patches extend from- a few .yards to an I acre or more. As they appear to be extending their operations, I write this in the hope that some of the readers of your valuable paper might be able to give some information as to the best means to get nd of the pest. I may state that from my own observation, the pheasants appear to scratch up aud eat hundreds of them, and consequently I think sportsmen ought to spare these useful birds. I am, etc., Wm 0. Cunningham.
