• LF^B UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION, j HORRIBLE MURDER AT THURSDAY ISLAND. Brisbane, May 26. A Chilian cabin boy, belonging to the schooner Sketty Bell, has been murdered at Thursday Island, in the same way as the Whitechapel victims. The body was cut up and horribly mutilated. The cook of the vessel has beeu arrested on suspicion. Sydney, May 27. Sailed — Hauroto, for Wellington. Among her passengers are a number of Lord Glasgow's suit and servants. The Earl himself and family will probably leave on Monday. The steamer Oakland is ashore at the entrance of Richmond Eiver, and as she is lying in a dangerous position it is feared she will become a total wreck. This Day. Bishop Barry, writing to the Church of England Gruardian, opposes the introduction of Kanaka labor, and says the regulations, however carefully devised, are but too likely to be ineffective. Melboitbne, This Day. John Cahill, cashier of Taylor's Land Credit Bank, was found drowned in the Yarra. Information for complicity in the frauds had been sworn against him, and he is believed to have committed suicide. Brisbane, This Day. The Marine Board refused to allow the brig Para to leave for the South Seas on a recruiting voyage as the regulations had not been complied with.
