Feilding Fire Brigade

The Fire Brigade tea which was held : in the Assembly Rooms on -Tuesday evening last in aid of the funds of the , Fire Brigade was well attended. The tables were presided over by Mesdaraes Hamilton, Eade, Stevens, Thompson, Reading, Allen, and Misses Brown, Bellve, Parr, Newman, Thompson, Richards, and Rutherford. After the tea the concert commenced, the string band un- : der the leadership of Mr Kitchen giving the opening peace. Mr Williamson sang "Rocked in the cradle of the deep" in good style. Mr Wemyiss rendered au imitation of the Scotch bagpipes, and on being encored, responded with the " Lasifc rose of Summer." Mesdames Jones and Poadgave a pleasing rendering of the duet^ Palowsky!s banner." Miss Hastie receiyed a well-deserved encore for her singing of the song " Margarette." Mr Dixon was applauded in the song "Thine only." Mrs. Jones sang with much, sweetness and power, "The, song that reached my heart," and responded to an encore with "My ane country." Mr Eade with good voice gave the song, ■' Home boys home," and oh being encored was equally successful in the song " The British Lion." Here Captain Thompson thanked the audience for their attendance, and made a presentation to Branchman Kitchen of a medal,' which was the first prize for single manual practice, and said that in every competition Fireman Kitchen took a foremost place, The second part opened with a slow march by the string band, which was well executed* Miss Bellve and Mr. Eade were well received in the duet, " What are the wild waves saying." Miss Hamilton following with a pretty . song, which was nicely given, '•' Two are company." Mr. Wemyiss was. again successful in his violin solo, which con* sisted of a selection of Scotch airs, and receiyed an encore. After a song by Miss Bellve, given with her usual good expression, tbe programme concluded with a selection by the band. Mr. Reading successfully officiated at a Dutch auction of the provisions wbich had been left over from the tea. Tbe proceeds will clear about £20 of the debt now remaining on the engine.
