The Oamaru Mail concluded an article on Mr Macarthur'a meeting in Feilding thus: — "It would have been less embarrassing to the good people of Feilding had they confessed at once that the meeting at which Mr Ballance received the thanks and the Government the confidence of the community was a large public meeting of honajide residents, and that Mr Macarthur's meeting consisted mainly of Mr Bryce's discontents who travel from place to place to exert their malign influences." This is a most amusing paragraph, but it shows how far the supporters of the Government (especially when they have a hope of substantial reward) will go to malign the Opposition. The statement that " Mr Bryce's discontents travel from place to place, &c," is a wilful— well, perversion of the truth.
