Ashurst Notes
(from our own correspondent.) There was a meeting in the Pramatio Hall on Wednesday evening to consider the best means of assisting the Subscription committee of the Palmerston Hospical. Mr Ingram took the chair, and after stating the object of the meeting a committee was elected to carry out the intention of helping on this good work. A committee of ladies will also probably be formed to get up a bazaar, &c. Both \shurst and Pohangina will benefit largely by the establishment of an hospital at Palmerston, and no doubt will show they think so by £ s. d. The subscription list of those willing to contribute annually towards the support of a resident clergyman at Ashurst is being well filled It is confidently hoped by the end oi the week, the .£l5O a year will be made up. We can then petition the Standing Diocesan Committee to form Ashurst, Bunny thorpe, and Pohangina into a parochial district. It is being suggested by some of our young men and boys that paper-chases should be got up this winter. The Secretary of the Small Farm Association requests any member who has not received his declaration to write to him at Ashurst at once. No drawing for sections can take place till eyery paper is signed and returned to Wellington. Also, if any member finds that the regulations are too stringent, and he decides to withdraw, such an one is asked to return his paper to the secretary at once, as no transfer can now be obtained.
