Wirths' Circus
The performance in Wirfch's Circus on Thursday night was in every way a succesn. There was some justifiable disappointment felt at there being only one ring instead of three as advertised, but the general excellence of the show more than compensated for this deficiency. The feats of horsemanship require no special notice as they were of the usual uterotyped character, but which, although oH, are always as pleasing as in the days of yore when even a glimpse of the horses, hoofs under the canvas was a delight. The ground and lofty tumbling was exceptionally good, and the figure groups were worth all the money to see. The educated pig which ran a steeplechase, steered by Mr Merryman, was quite exciting, and aU that was wanted to make the audience truly happy was the presence of a ferocious looking white dog, ot tne bull species, which, in the earlier part of the evening, tried to "pin" a young lad who was careering round the ring, me aog would have made it interesting for the pig. Luckily for the latter the dog had been forcibly ejected some time before Mr Piggy came on the scene. The audience was very considerable, both portions of the tent allotted to spectators being well filled with yery few less than a thousand men, women, and children. Before the interval Mr Wifth, onibehalf of himself and his brothers, thanked the audience for their attendance, and at the same time announced that he was about to proceed to France and England where he intended to enlist the services of a new company of stars and on his return to the colony, in about nine months, he would pay another visit to Feilding. This was received with applause. The performance closed with an Indian scalping farce, and the National Anthem was played as the tent was folded and the people stole silently away, every one well pleased with the Show. _ __»_»_--— -
