Sad Shooting Case

A* shocking fatality occurred on the evening of the 10th instant, at » place about four miles from Portland, 'Victoria. A man named Wm. Kempton had been talking with a citizen about a gun which the latter wished to sell him. On returning home in the evening he was telling his brother about the gun, and took down hie own to explain the points of difference between it and the other, He cocked the gun and pulled the , trigger, not knowing that it was ' loaded, when the gun went off, aud the full charge entered the le^- of his wife, who was passing a yard or two off. The charge entered the left leg about the calf, completely shattering it. Kempton and his brother set , about staunching the blood, tor j which they used flour, bandaging j the limb up as well as thoy could j but i by the time medical assistance arrived, j the unfortunate woman was ex- 1 hau&ted. The doctor decided to amputate the limb, but betore this could be accomplished she died.
