Decline of Matrimony in England
Says an Enp-lish paper . — '* The: decline of matrimony in England; which has of late years been marked, more especially among- the middle and upperfclasses, has led to a revival of this question. The revelations that are occasionally made in the Divorce Court are not of a nature to encourage the more prurient and eligible young men, and those who would make the best husbands, to enter into the enjoyments of eonnubial bliss. It is some relief to middlb- class families over-burdened with an excess of daughters that the opportunities for' girls earning their own living appear to be on the in-: crease ; but the competition for paid employment • acceptable to young ladies of the middle classes is every day growing more severe. The prospects for middle class girls in the immediate future appear, therefore, to be anything but bright, except to those who are not afraid of work. Them are thousauds of young men wanting- wives at this very momenl in Australia, where there are few wives to be had. There is a colonial career open to our surplus temale population if they can only manage to get to the other* side of the globe.
