The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, APRIL 26, 1892. The Anarchists

It will be remembered that in the early part of the current year a manifesto was issued by the Anarchists and Socialists on the European Continent stating what their intentions were at the demonstration to be held on next May Ist. These were said to be entirely peaceful, but, strangely enough, the soldiers were requested not to fire upon them if commanded to do so. It appears to us that if these people only intended to make a " peaceful " demonstration, they need have had no fear that they would be attacked by the troops. However the authorities of the Great Powers have refused to allow these demonstrations to be held, therefore the danger of a collision has beeti partially avoided. We use this term advisedly because these madmen are certain to make this opposition a grievance and will "avenge" it by the murder of some uuoff ending priests, or defenceless women ami children. What strikes the thoughtful observer of the actions of these socialists is the tender solicitude thoy exhi >it for their own skius when there is any risk of them being scratched, and on the other hand the indifference with which they throw bombs or other terrible explosive missiles among crowds of innocent people who are assembled together iv ! the churches to worship their Great Creator. When any of these assassins are arrested, how they plead for their own miserable lives, and how willing they are to betray their fellow criminals to ensure their own safety for a little while. This proves what cowardly animals they are, natheless their love of shedding blood, and therefore the only deterrent ever likely to be really effective will be the dread of the lash. This effectually put a stop to garrotting in .England, a crime which required more real pluck than bomb throwing.
