Feiiding School Committee

The last meeting of the aboye committee was held at the school-house yesterday evening. Present — Mr Lothbridge (chairman), Mr H. Worsfold (secretary), and Messrs Shearer, Morey, Curtis and Gould. After transacting some routine business the meeting closed, and at 8 o'clock the annual meeting of householders was held at the same place for the purpose of receiving the report and balance-sheet of the outgoing committee and the election of a new one in its stead. Mr Lethbridge was voted to the chair, and, in stating the object of the meeting, be regretted to see so small a number of householders present. There were only 14 persons in the room. The election of a committee was then proceeded with, the following being proposed : — Messrs Lethbridge, H. Worsfold, Shearer, Dr Sorley, Morey, Curtis, Beading, E. Worsfold, Taylor, J. C. Thompson, Jannings and Carthew. A poll was taken, when the following were elected as the new committee : — Dr Sorley, Messrs Carthew, Lethbridge, ' Shearer, Taylor, Curtis, Moray, E. Worsfold and J. C. Thompson. Mr Lethbridge was elected chairman and Mr Shearer secretary, after which the meeting adjourned. The following is a precis of the retiring committee's report : — The committee wish to draw the attention of parents and guardians to the unsatisfactory attendance. The committee have made alterations to the school and play-grounds, thus making things pleasant for the children. A school entertainment was got up for their entertainment and to raise funds. There has been no sickness since the holidays, yet the attendance has been but little better, and the greatest listlessness and indifference is shown by pupils and parents. The committee were unable to give prizes this year owing to insufficient funds. Owing to rumours of diphtheria being prevalent in Peilding the school was closed on Monday morning. The receipts for the year were £58 5s 4d and the expenditure i!sl 13b Bd, lea Ting a balance of £6 11s Bd.
