The Premier's Visit

DEPUTATIONS. ; Oti Thursday afternoon a deputation waited on the Premier, consisting of Mr T. R. Taylor, chairman of the Kiwitea Road Board, Mr Homer, warden, and Messrs McLenaghau and j5. Pask. Mr i Macarthur, M.H.E., introduced them. Tho obiftct of the deputation was to ob-;. i tain a grant in aid to complete two miles i of the Kimbolton road and four miles of I the Oroua Valley road. It was shown to Mr Ballance that by the completion of these roads ready access would be given to the adjoining Crown Lands shortly to. be opened up for settlement. Mr Homer pointed out that the settlers had already done their utmost by borrowing under tho Loans to Local Bodies Act to make these roads, and they had now exhausted their borrowing powers under that Act. Mr Taylor asked that the Road Board ' should be empowered to call for tenders for the works with as little delay as possible otherwise many of the settlers would hare to pack m stores and other necessaries with horses. Iv reply the Premier suggested that the deputation should put their wants in writing, giving the fullest details, and he would submit them to the Minister of Lands and the Cabinet. As soon as the road Board received a reply to the effect that the required grant would be made, tenders could then be called. The deputation then thanked the Premier and withdrew. Afterwards Mr Gh R. Lucas, warden of the Pohangma, waited on Mr Ballance to ask him if he would introduce an Enabling Bill to enable the Wanganpi Harbor Board to deal with their lands iv the Endowment Block. In reply Mr Ballanoe informed Mr Lucas that such bill was now being prepared and the Goyernment ■would introduce the same.
