COMPENSATION TO PUBLICANS. TO THE F.DITOR OF THK STAR. Sir — Was it not rather weak and illogical on the part of the Premier to say that a publican has the same right to compensation for the loss of a year' 3 license as the owner of a fee simple estate the cutting up of which is simply a question of expediency, while the said license is refused because of its positive raischeviousness. Surely statesmen must hare a peculiar way of their own of looking at this matter. Is it from the hustings standpoint they see it ? I was pleased to notice his audience had too much intelligence to receive his remarks with signs of approval. I may say the remainder of his address was everything that could be desired for clearness and frankness. I am, etc., Loyalty.
