Two Doctors in Trouble

The suspicious death of a woman named Rebecca Cohen, who died in the Sydney Hospital on 4th March from the effects, it is alleged, of maltreatment by two unqualified men for a cancer in the throat, was the subject of an inquest which extended over nine days, and excited keen interest in Sydney. In the long run the jury, after half an hour's deliberation, found — That Rebecca Cohen died of cancer, and that the same was unskilfully and brutally treated by Sam Hood and Thomas Hood, and that they were guilty of manslaughter. We are also of opinion that some steps should immediately be taken by the Legislature to protect the public from unqualified practitioners. Both the Hoods were committed for trial. Bail was allowed, in all amounting to £2000. The accused formerly lived in Auckland.
