HIS IDENTITY WITH JACK THE RIPPER.
SENSATION IN LONDON. jl'lill UNITED TUKSS ASSOCIATION | London, March 27. The police wholly disbelieve Deeming' s confession that he perpetrated two of the " .Tack the Ripper " murders. They state that Deeming and his wife parted at the Cape in July, 1889, and travelled to London by different routes. Mrs Deeming and her children arrived in London on August Ilth, and he on September 28th. Deeming then rejoined his wife, and subsequently the latter proceeded to Birkonhead, while her husband remained in London for a month. Deeming'a confession as to the committal of two of the " Ripper " murders was first published in the evening journals, and created a tremendous sensation. Opinions regarding the truth of the confession are very conflicting. The Scotland Yard officials do not believe Deeming's statement, but admit the possibility of his being the Ripper, as his movements in 18S8, when six of the murders were perpetrated, are unknown. His other movements are consistent with the tlieorjr of «-u.ilt. Deeming frequently discussed ths Jack the Ripper's crimes, and is known to have possessed a number of knives. The head of the Criminal Investigation Department thinks of trying to secure Deeming's remand to England. Albany, March 28. During the journey to Perth riotous crowds met the train conyeying Swanson.
