Advices received from German New Guinea show that 800 out of 450 Chinese imported there to grow tobacco, since October, have died from fever, dysentry, or influenza. Several other shipments have also been generally thinned by death. A large number of natives recruited from the Bismarck Archipelago are also dying at a fearful rate. Several of the stations have now been abandoned, and the German Company must have spent up to date quite half a million of money with but very poor results. Adklaidb, March 28. The English eleven defeated the Australinns by one innings and 230 runs. Lord Sheffield lias intimated his in tention of bringing a strong team to the colonies to play three test matches only. It is expected the team will arrive in Australia next December. MhIiBOTTBxe. March 28. The Bnllarat Banking Company has suspended pai'ment after a successful existence of 27 years. Deposits amount to £265,000, and assets are stated to be worth £414,000.
