A Novel Way to Raise Money

A novel and decidedly taking attrac* tion for church bazaars is thus amus« ingly described by an American correspondent : — At a town situate a few miles from Buffalo, in the State of New York, there is a church whose members a few days since decided to bold a bazaar with the object of raising funds, which latter were badly wanted. It " was whispered abroad that special induce* merits would be offered the male members of the church and community and thus obviate any excuse for close fistedness. On the evening of the opening the sterner sex rolled up in large numbers. So did their wives and other interested female relatives. At a giyen signal a curtain was withdrawn, and then were disclosed, upon a raised platform, six of the most charming girls of the congregation attractively dressed, and having suspended round each fair neck a placard upon which was plainly printed the following - "You may kiss me for 25 cents." It i was a tremendous success, after the first five minutes of hesitation. It " caught on " splendidly. Deacons and teachers outdid their own sons and scholars in the wild rush. The silver quartets fell in sbowers. Some respected and elderly members tried each one. At the end of half an hour the curtain fell. Then there was chaos. The wives objected to the whole affair. There were retorts and hot words, and these increased to something stronger when it was an ; nounced the performance would be r«« peated in an hour's time. Donnybrook never approached the next 10 minutes curtains were torn down, the gas was turned out, cries of wrath were heard following by faintly muttered protests, and, finally, the bazaar, commenced under such happy auspices, was closed, There is now a schism in the church, and no Service was held there last Sandar.
