N.Z. Rifle Association Meeting

PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION). Rifle Kange, March 11. The thirty-first annual meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association opened this afternoon. The total number of entries to hand so far is 225, but it is expected to be increased to 250. The Wellington match of which only the 500 and 600 yards ranges were taken (seven shots at each distance), the shooting at the 200 yards range being fixed for this nioruing. The match does not count for the Championship. The highest totals for the two ranges are— Cameron (Tenui Rifle Club), 58; Bunting (Palmerston), Head (Auckland), Jackson (Wellington), Eoss (Napier), Humphries (Napier), 57; Harding (Blenheim), Evans (Christchurch), Okey (Taranaki) ; 56 ; McCarthy (Dunedin), Richardson (Dunedin) 55 ; A. Ballinger (Wellington), Rait (Wellington), Kirk (Wellington), Oates (Grey town), Kruise (Wanganui) 54. The Hawkes Bay match (500 and 600 yds ; ten shots each) will be fired to-day after the Wellington match is completed. It may be mentioned in conclusion that English ammunition is being used for the meeting. Trbntham, This Day. In order to provide against the repetition of the little larrikinistn which prevailed in camp after hours last night, the competitors this morning were warned that anyone caught in future will be immediately expelled from the association, There was considerable growling at the late hour to which the firing was continued last night as it was almost moonlight before " cease firing " sounded. The Council have promised to remedy the matter. The weather this morning is fine with a firesh wind blowing. The Wellington match finished, the following being the principal prize takers :— Ross (Napier), £S, 89; Jackson (Weilington), £6, 88; Humphries (Napier), £5, 87 ; Cameron (Tenui), £4, 87 ; Kirk (Wellington), £4, 86 ; Kruise (Wanganui), M, 86.
