The Conference of the Chambers of Commerce passed a resolution advocating decimal coinage and weights. The House of Commons has been appealed to with regard to the by-law in force in Eastbourne, forbidding the Salvation Army to parade the streets of the town. Captain Kane has been promoted to the post of commodore, and given command of the Calliope on the coast of Africa. A Baring's Estate Trust is being formed in order to relieve the Bank. March 11. Mr W. B. Perceval, Agent- General for New Zealand, is zealously announcing the resources and charms of the Colony. Washington, March 11. The Committee of the House recommends the construction of 18 new war vessels and the purchase of a large number of torpedoes. Bbhlin, March 10. The Emperor William in confined to his bed with a severe cold. Melbourne. March 11. The Railway Commissioners' scheme of retrenchment provides for a reduction in salaries from 2-J to 10 per cent, an increase of 5 to 10 per cent on rates for goods, and 5 per cent on the passenger fares.
