The Felding Star. TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 1892. Our Population
We have compiled the following very interesting: figures from the results of the census of the colony taken on the night of April sth, 1891. It will be seen that the country population of the Oroua County exceeds that of Manawatu County by 4693. The Borough of Feilding, the principal town of the Oroua Country has a total population of 1583 : consisting of 835 males and 748 females ; with five Chinese. Palmerston, the principal town Manawatu County, has a total population of 4303 : consisting of 2192 males, 2111 females, and 32 Chinese. Oroua County. Ridiug Male Female Total Kiwitea 975 529 1504 Waituna 792 749 1541 Ashurst 998 908 1906 Taonui 1124 892 2016 Fitzherbert ... 271 180 451 Total ... 4160 3258 7418 Manawatu County. Sandon 383 332 715 Mount Stewart ... 161 141 302 Waitohi 183 181 314 Carnarvon ... 106 84 190 Kawakawa ... 202 93 295 Campbellfcown ... 280 238 518 Awahow 279 112 391 Total 1594 1131 2725 This gives to the Oroua County a total population of 9001, and to the Manawatu County, 7029, and with Foxton, 1223, added, a total of 8051. The population in the Manchester Block u umbers 5030, including the Halcombe Town Board 414, consisting of 193 males and 221 females.
