Volunteer Items

_. + THe Manchester Rifles paraded .for inspection on Thursday evening. Lieuts. . Kirton and Bray, in command. Only about 25 men were present, therefore the parade did not count for capitation. However, the men were smartly drilled in company and manual exercise by Lieut. Bray. Before the men were dismissed Lieut. Kirton announced that iv consequence of orders issued by the Defence Minister, the corps would not be able to : assist at the Nelson Easter Encampment. This was rather a disappointment, but orders must be obeyed. The return match between Feilding and Palmerston North Rifles will be fired on the 17th instant.
