The Felding Star. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1892.
March 2nd, 1892
Wednesday next will witness tbe inauguration of a very important change in Feilding. The half-holiday which has been arranged between employers and employed to be held on the afternoon of that day, will we feel confident, be the cause of much good both directly and indirectly to everyone. The first benefit will be derived by the employes who will have an opportunity given them of taking that exercise and relaxation which is so necessary for the maintenance of bodily health, while the employers will have the advantage of being served by young men who are able to do their work cheerfully and with courtesy to customers. We would urge upon persons living in the suburbs or up country to make careful note of the fact that on Wednesday afternoons the shops will be closed, therefore it will be necessary for them to make their purchases either on the preceding day or in the forenoon of the day on which the half-holiday occurs. On them really does the success or otherwise of the thing depend. If they are dissatisfied and make their discontent known, business men will be sorely tempted to revert to the old syatem, and a flagrant injustice will be done to a hard working and not over-well paid lot of young men, whose lines of life are not always cast in pleasant places. Thia is a contingency, however, which we trust tbe good sense and good feeling of customers will make impossible.
