Dunkdin, Febraary24. . The Dunedin Jockey Club were favoured with fine weather for the first day's racing. The sum of £10,958 went through the machines. Dunedin Cup ; 2 miles and a distance. —Occident, 1 ; Cruchfield, 2 ; Prime Warden, 3. Merry England, Crackshot, Rosefeldt, Freelance, and Don Pedro also ran. From a beautiful start Occident, on the inside, showed slightly in front, with Bosefeldt second, and Crackshot next. As they turned into the straight Occident had the advantage of a length from Cruchfield, with Merrie England three lengths away third, and Prime Warden coming .very fast. A desperate struggle between the two leaders took place down the straight, but Occident held his own, and won by a length, with Prime Warden seven lengths away third, Merrie England fourth, Don Pedro fifth, Bosefeldt sixth, Crackshot seventh, and Freelance last. Time, 3min dOsec, which is the fastest in which the race has ever been run. Dividend, £3 16s Maiden Plate. — Flinders; 1; Enfield, 2 ; Darleteria, 3. Dividend, £1 10s 6d. Stewakds' Pubse (welter).— May, 1 ; Cajolery, 2; Tempest, 3. Dividend, £6 Is.
