Dixoh, and that they report on the same at the nexfmeeting of this Council, — Carried. - Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Gould, That if satisfactory arrangements can be made with the various owners of property mentioned in the Inspector of Nuisance's report, the necessary drainage works mentioned by the Inspector, in such report be carried out. Cr Goodbehere said if this was done a large-question would, be opened up and the Council would have to entertain numerous similar applications and the funds would.be insufficient to meet them. Or J. 0. Thompson thought the expense would be top giieafc. and as the town had no natural drainage <he would like the question brought up for discussion and. a general system adopted. Cr Watts said that similar applications for othet proprietors had; been refused. The Mayor : If Mrs; Oliver would be willing to bear the whole oost, the work could be carried out under- the supervision of the Clerk of Works. Cr Sandilands replied that Mrs Oliver drained her own property, but there was then no -outlet for the drainage. The motion was then put and lost.
