Stock Market

STEVENS & GORTON'S STOCK BE PORT. Our sale at Feilding on tho 27th ult. was well attended, and the yards were filled with good sorts of cattle ; the sheep coming forward were generally of a somewhat inferior class. Cattle of all classes were dull of sale, but sheep realised current values, with the exception of lambs which showed a disposition to fall somewhat from previous prices. We quote as under :— Fat bullocks, £5/7/6 ; 3-year steers, £3 12/6; 18-month steers, £2 17/6 ; 3-jear steers and heifers, £3 10/; cows, £3 10/ to £4 ; springing heifers, £3 7/6. Sheep — 2-tooth wethers, 10/5 to 10/9 ; 2-tooth ewes, 11/9 to 14/; fresh full-mouth ewes, 8/9 to 11/6 ; culted ewea, 4/ to 7/9 ; ewes aud lambs all counted, 7/11 to 8/8 ; mixed lambs in wool, 7/9 to 8/4 ; shorn lambs, 5/3 ; romney rams, £2 2/. We had a large attendance at our ram fair held on the Show Ground at Palmerston North on Thursday and Friday last. Though the sale was evidently too early to suit a large number of buyers. Kams of superior quality were largely competed for. A larger number of rams camo forward than in the previous year, the quality generally was not so good. The demand for Eomney rams showed a considerable improvement on late years the whole of those offered being disposed of at prices satisfactory to the vendors. Mr Akors was unfortunate in not getting his rams in to the first days sale, many buyers of Eomney being unable to stay for the second day, or his average would have been much better. Black faced cheep were difficult to quit at any price and the Border Leicester, bred by the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, though containing some really first class sheep did not excite any competition but were partially disposed of after tho sale. Messrs Collins, of Hawkes Bar, nnd D- Grant, of Kairanga, brought forward some superior Lincolns in the pink of condition, wnicn excited considerable competition, and there was a good demand exhibited for the New Zealand and Australian Land Company's Lincolns which though undoubtedly showing a great deal of quality, were in poor condition and would have been better for a spell after (heir journey. We succeeded in disposing of the whole of the rams entrusted to our care at or after the sale, at prices satisfactory to tho vendor?, with the exception of a small line of Lincolns and another of Shropshire sheep :— Wo quote as undor : — On account of Ti. B. Pearce— ls 2-tooth Lincoln rams, 2 guineas to 4 guineas, averaging close on 3 guineas.
