Gisbobne, Jnnuary 25, A Maori girl named Keriana Hayes, aged 16, has committed suicide by hanging herself, because of the opposition of her guardian to certain love affairs. She placea her head in a noose only three feet above the ground, she then went on her knees, and after a determined 1 struggle strangled herself. Blenheim, January 25. Constable Sheary has returned from a ten days' tour round the shearing sheds, where he has been inspecting the accommodation provided for the men. He reports some as excellent, while a number are just the reverse. In one instance about 30 men sleep and eat in a building the walls of which are not more than Bft high, three tiers of bunks going round the room. He was in possession of the Victoria Cross, the Punjaub medal, the Indian Mutiny tnedul, and the good conduct medal.
