None of the passengers were affected, but one fireman and a steward died. Obitnary— Professor Adams, astronomer. Aged 73. The consignees fear that many of the Colonial wool ships will be detained by head winds and will miss the market. The Standard urges the appointment of a Koyal Commission to enquire into causes of influenza. At Capetown the disease is of a virulent type, and in Paris the deaths have increased by 800 weekly. Influenza is also increasing with severity in England. Vienna, January 22. Archduke Ferdinand is suffering from influenza. Washington, January 22. Mr Springer has introduced his Bill providing for the repeal of wool duties from January next. St. Petebsbubg, January 22. A number of railway officials have been arrested in Moscow on a charge of assisting the Nihilists to lay a mine under the railway line over which the Czar passed on his recent journey.
