The Barnardo Boys

The Entertainment given hy the boys from Di&Barnardo's Home, in the Assembly ftooms on Tuesday evening was very well attended. The Rev A. Hormon was wtcd td'the chair. The Rev H. M. Murray inaugurated the .proceedings by! an appropriate prayer. '.The music on the bells was very {»ood, Jthe trumpeters were well worthiiearing,.but the best part of the show was the playing' of the bagpipes by three of the lads, dressed in Highland costume. They brought down the house. >The lecture by the Rev W. J. Mayers was listened to with wrapt attention j and many of those preseiiti learned to realise thoroughly the awful poverty and distress which exists in the great city of London. The rev gentleman made touching appeals to the sympathies of his hearers, but when the " plate went round " quite' a large number of ladies were unable to contribute owing to the fact that they had not' their purses with them. r However " The Little Man with the B 6x M at Mr " earthewVwffl always.be ready to receive offerings. Mr Mu^er thanked the Rev Mr Hermon for presiding: and Mr Carthew for the trouble he had taken in making all necessary arrangements. The audience fully concurred and gave Mr Carthew/ a. round of applause. Mr Hermon returned his thanks, and after ringing the National Anthem accompanied by the Bells, a benediction by Mr Hermon closed the proceedings.
