Wales announced he and the Princess are deeply grateful at the universal sympathy. , The Duchess of Abercbrh has returned the niouey subscribed in the North of Ireland with the Princess Mary's 'thanks. Villagers have heen admitted to inspect the coffin in Sandringham Church. v Waiters in London are to public chanty, owing to the cessation of festivities in consequence of the death of the Duke of Clarence. The editor of a paper in Johantiesberg, who attacked the late Doke of Clarence, was set up on by a mob. and' bis ejectment from the Transvaal threatened. The windows of his office were smashed. Auckland, January 20. Funeral salutes were fired to-day from H.M.S. Tauranga and from the North Head Battery in honour of the memory of the Duke of Clarence, while in the city and suburbs many shops bad their shutters down and broad bands of mounting materials on the windows. Thelaw offices were closed in the afternoon. . .■■■■■ Wellington, January 20.St Peter's Church toiled a muffled bell this afternoon, and after the evening service the whole peal was alno muffled. All the public "and insurance offices closed this afternoon and flags were halfmast high, but beyond this and the closing of the doors of some of the large mercantile establishments there is very slightrecognitionofthedayofthedeceased Prince's funeral. r The Permanent Artillery fired sixty minute guns from; the .Saluting Battery. 'jThe train started with the Pnnce and Princews of Wales and daughters, Prince George, Duke of Fife, and Princess Mary of Tetk. The procession is forming -at Windsor. The Duke of Edinburgh is receiving foreign mourners, including the Grand Duke Alexis, of Russia, and thwn whose names have already been, sept bj wire. All the princesses will occupy the Queen's private pew. The following telegram has beeiL forwarded by the Major of Wellington to the Agent-3eneral in London :— " Convey to Pnnce and Pnncess of Wales condolence and sympathy of Mayor and Corporation of Wellington. : . : £
