* The Palmerston North Rifles have elected Lieutenant Hall as Captain. The officer commanding the Manchester Rifles has received a circular from the Defence Department, stating that a communication had been received from the Colonial Office, through the AgentGeneral, containing the information, inter alia, that His Royal Highness the Cornea ander-in- Chief, approves of such officers of the Colonial Local forces as, are recommended by their Agents -General through the Colonial Office, being permitted to attend any course or school of instruction in the United Kingdom, and also that no objection exists to the presentation at Court of such Colonial officers as may be presented by the Secretary of State for the colonies, and that while the Secretary of State could not be expected to present such officers at Court as a matter of course, or without special recommendation, in each case from the Governor, Lord Knutsford will at all times be ready to consider favourably any such recommendation. The Foxton Rifle Club have decided that their uniform shall be a blue serge tunic and cap, and leather gaiters. The team of Palmerston North Rifles will arrive in Feilding on Friday by the train which leaves Palmerston at 7 a.m. a.m. As many of the Manchester Rifles team as can make it convenient, are requested to meet the visitors at the railway station. The following are the names of the Palmerston team : — Sergt. Belf, Corporals Tanner and Richardson, Privates Wadsworth, Kells, Meyrick, Strudwick, Pooch, Woods, Kerr, Hyde, Hancock, Aydon, Bogen and Batt.
