» .. .. The Manchester Rifles met for the first parade of the year on Thursday evening. There was only a moderate attendance. Some disappointment was felt that none of the officers of the Permanent staff were present to inspect, but they were engaged in "Wanganui checking the capitation returns. A challenge from the Palmerston North Rifles was road and accepted. A match committee was appointed and the following team selected: — Lieut. Bray, Sergt. Evans, Sergt. Lethbridge, Vols. P. Say well, C. Aitken, J. Scott, Hopkins, W. Stevens, Bassefct, D. Humphries, and Parker ; Vols. Petherick and Dougherty as emergency men. The match will' be fired on the Feilding range on Friday the 22nd instant. Corporal Milson was appointed to act as secretary. On the motion of Lieut. Kirton a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bilderbeck, who had acted as secretary to the corps for many years. The next parade will be held on the 28th instant, when it will be decided as to calling tenders for the new uniforms. There are a few vacancies in the corps, and intending recruits are requested to apply for information to the officer commanding the corps (Lieut. Kirton), Lieut. Bray, Sergt. Evans, or the secretary, Corporal Milson. A match between a team of Manches£er Rifles and a team of civilians will be arranged as soon as possible after the names of the latter have been sent in to Lieut, Kirton.
