The Auckland Concert Party
This clever company gave a. really enjoyable entertainment, in the Assembly Booms last night, to a large and appreciative audience. The opening number was an instrumental trio, " The King of Diamonds, " by Messrs Eady (violin), S.Jackson (clarionet) and Bartley (piano). This was well played, and was succeeded by Mr Dufaur, who sang " Queen of My Heart " splendidly. In the second part of the programme Mr Dufaur sang "The Yeoman's Wedding " so well that in response to a well-deserved encore he gave " The Gallants of England " in good style, Mr Dufaur hag a grand voice of great compass and power, The violin solo of Mr Eady, from M II Trovatore '' was well played, and he received ample applause, Miss Alice Rimmer sang " Dear Heart " with bo much taste and feeling that an encore was imperatively demanded. She responded with " Sweet Spirit Hear My Prayer, " when she gave greater pleasure than in her first song. The duett "The Fisherman, " sung by Messrs Jackson, and Dufaur went very well, but the good effect was somewhat marred by a too hasty conclusion of the last few notes of the music. Mrs Kilgour, gave "Alia Stella Confidante," with yiolin obligato accompaniment by Mr Eady, really well, and she was also deservedly applauded. The first part of the programme was concluded by the duet " Sainted Mother," most beautifully rendered by Miss Kilgour and Miss Bimmer. The instrumental trio "The Fairy March" was excellently well played by Messrs Eady, S. Jacksou, and A. Bartley. The song "Because I Love Thee So" was well sung by Mr Jackson, who has an exceptionally good tenor voice. • Mrs Kilgour followed with "Tell Me My Heart," which was so pleasingly given that she was encored, and gave " Tit for Tat " so well that she was again loudly applauded. The clarionet solo " Fantasia" was played with great taste and skill by Mr S. Jacksou. Miss Eimmer rendered a selected song very sweetly, and in response to the encore sang " Cambriana ' in good form The performance was concluded with " The Angelus," which was really the gemjof the evening. Altogether the performance delighted the audience, who departed well satisfied with the musip and the, pepfqrraer?.
